Change is also difficult because people can only process a certain amount at one time. Those who have an affinity toward change sometimes need to slow down and set priorities, thinking about the big picture. What that means is their goal to bring about change remains intact but they take longer to achieve it based on the ability of others to understand, accept and implement smaller steps toward it.
In Mark 9:14-29, Jesus took his disciples to a higher level of understanding after they couldn’t cast out a demon. “This kind comes out by prayer and fasting,” He explained. Jesus hadn’t explained this to them earlier as they could not have handled it back then—they needed some experience first. He was already bringing about a seismic change in their thinking on what the Kingdom of God was and had to build foundation blocks first before introducing them to finer points of implementation.
In John 16:12-13, we read that Jesus had more to share with His disciples but they weren’t able to bear it yet—hence His Spirit would guide them into all truth in the future. Again, Jesus wisely shared only so much with his disciples. Giving too much information early on to people can potentially overwhelm them or prevent them from implementing what they already know as their minds are drawn to what's beyond their current reality.
